Here is the car when we picked it up and a few renditions of what the car will look like:
Here is how the car arrived: |
This is a major improvement over the 88 Mustang project we started with. This car is in one piece, at least. There are no major rot holes, and the only damage is the right front fender. The rest is pretty straight and solid, although we'll be cutting it up anyway...... |
Here it is after one day of work... |
The front bumper, rear bumper, all the lights and most of the interior is out. The engine is ready to come out. Most of the trim on the body is off. The next step is to pull the engine and transmission, remove the rest of the trim, then the glass has to come out. We've agreed on removing 5" out of the roof.... We were looking for a new right front fender, just to save some time, but we didn't find one, so we'll be straightening that one.... The first step in the custom work is welding the hood to the fenders to make the nose one piece, but first things first, the engine has to go..... |

The engine is out... |

Lots of cleaning to do here..... |
May 18th - Updates:Rear Flip Trunk, done May 16th:No Kits Here....We used door hinges from a Chevy Van to reverse the trunklid. The following pictures (courtesy of Shane from FTHR Magazine) prove we got Jesse to do some work..... |
Sept 11th - Updates:Attaching the hood scoop while we wait for the car to come back from the suspemsion shop. |
Sept 24th - Updates:We finally got the car back. It has been gone for almost 4 months. Now we have to rush to get it done. Top Chop underway. The roof needs to be cut into 4 sections (and then some) for everything to line up properly. It gets real ugly before it gets pretty.... We used the measure 3 times, then "eye it up anyway" method. Sometimes, measurements can be exact and it just doesn't look right.... It lines up perfectly now.... |
Oct 1st - Updates:Top Chop continues... As you can see, the entire car has also been stripped to the metal (we kept Shane real busy). We wanted to do this months ago, but the car was moving from shop to shop and it was left outside for quite some time at another shop. It would have been trash when it came back if we did this before it left. From this point on, the car will not leave our shop unless absolutely necessary. The following pictures show why top chops are usually around $10,000.00 without any paint work. The amount of hours we have in this roof alone is just staggering, and it's only about half way done so far. There is still a bunch of cutting, measuring, tweaking and filling in seams to be done.... We found a complete roof with a steel moonroof from a 1990 BMW 7 series at Albin Ave Auto Salvage in Lindenhurst (right around the block from our old shop...) It was very reasonably priced too... |

Much more to come!!! |
